Privacy

This page explains what happens to your data when you visit guesthousemikael.is or book a room with us. It is written to describe what the site actually does, not to cover every eventuality in the abstract.

Guesthouse Mikael, Hafnarbraut 8, 780 Höfn í Hornafirði, Iceland, is the controller for the data described here. You can reach us at guesthousemikael@gmail.com or +354 661 0068.

What this website collects

Nothing, by itself. The pages carry no analytics, no advertising tags and no tracking pixels. We set no cookies of our own. Fonts, scripts and images are served from our own domain rather than from a third-party network, so simply reading the site does not report your visit to anyone else.

Our hosting provider records ordinary server logs, including IP addresses and requested URLs, which are used to operate and secure the site. Our site is served through Cloudflare, which acts as a processor for that traffic.

The booking calendar

The availability calendar and the booking process are provided by Bookvisit, a booking engine operated by Visit Group AB. Their code is not loaded when the page first opens. It loads only once you interact with the page, and it is clearly visible when it does, because the booking bar becomes a working calendar.

Once loaded, Bookvisit sets its own cookies, including a bot-protection cookie, and it processes the details you enter when you make a reservation: your name, contact details, dates, room choice and payment information. Those details are handled by Bookvisit and by us as the accommodation provider, for the purpose of taking and honouring your booking. We do not receive your full card number.

If you would rather not load the booking engine at all, you can book by email or by phone instead, using the details above.

Reviews shown on this site

The guest reviews on the main page are quoted from public listings on Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Google, with the reviewer's own display name as it appears there. We do not publish reviewers' photographs. If you are quoted and would like your review removed from this site, write to us and we will take it down.

What we keep, and for how long

We keep booking records for as long as we need them to run the guesthouse and to meet Icelandic bookkeeping and tax obligations. Email correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful for answering you.

Your rights

Under the Icelandic Act on Data Protection and the Processing of Personal Data and the GDPR, you can ask us what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its processing, or ask for a copy. Write to guesthousemikael@gmail.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd.
